Survivor of the ice age, the musk ox was reintroduced in Dovrefjell National Park in the 50s. Since then, its colony of about 300 individuals seems to thrive in the harsh climate of the park. With their wool 8 times warmer than sheep’s wool, musk ox are totally adapted to this hostile environment.
Even if they are not afraid of humans and are placid in appearance, they can still run at 60 km/h and charge if they feel threatened: your guide will therefore impose a minimum safety distance.
These animals are in total freedom, the distances and durations of the activity may vary depending on the areas where the musk ox are located on the day of your safari.
